A CMMS is a Computerized Maintenance Management System, and is often called a Planned Maintenance System. In IES, we use both names.

So then, what is it? A Planned Maintenance System includes a Master Register of Items on which Maintenance are performed, and examples include Vehicles, Roads, Factory Equipment, Utility Works and many others.

For each Planned Maintenance Master Item, we may schedule many future Maintenance Events, and of course Events that are busy happening now are Current Events whereas Events that took place in the past are the Prior Events. Master Items on the Planned Maintenance Register are usually also Assets on the Fixed Asset Register, and can be connected directly on the Job Masters to the Fixed Assets.

A Future Event can be automatically triggered by the system, based on either the Job or Machine Meter or else a Target Date. An Event can also be manually triggered on demand.

A Current Event, among many other active Events that may be taking place at the same time, may include Bills of Materials, Human Resources, Sub Contracting and Purchase Orders, Stock and further Resources. When the Event is over, i.e. the Task is complete, then a Current Event is closed and becomes a Prior Event, and included on the History Records of the Maintenance Master.

Slide notes: The Maintenance Management and processing are integrated to the Accounts and the Enterprise modules, and while current events are being processed, Stock being issued, Purchase Orders being processed, etc., all of these automatically filter through to the Financial Accounts and onto the Maintenance Job Masters, so no further capturing is required.

Slide notes: Unplanned Maintenance Events may also be entered on demand, and immediately become Current Scheduled Maintenance Events.

Slide notes: Condition Monitoring with Inspection Schedules are processed directly onto the Planned Maintenance Master, but can also be included with Maintenance Events where necessary.
